Went here regularly 20 yrs ago when I worked at sfgh and just revisited with the new owners. For quality/value for basic Chinese takeout style food, I believe J&E will still be one of the best in the area. Prices are a few dollars or more below almost any chinese restaurant I know of within 100 miles. My most recent order fried chicken wings reminded me when Nancy and her husband ran the place - for my order the chicken was tender with the same crispy batter coating without being over salted or with msg; I think they did add a lite soy sauce and a few jalapenos/green onion/garlic for some flavor but for me didn't really need the soy sauce as it made it slightly soggy over time. I am very sensitive to msg and will get a massive headache when msg is added; was concerned when one reviewer mentioned this but no headache. Will try the other go-tos - beef chow fun, chicken sandwich, fried rice next when I can carb up again and post an update.

I was referred here by a friend and this place is absolutely nasty, the sweet and sour sauce was beyond disgusting, salt and pepper spare ribs, no flavor, looks like they just used the sweet and sour pork and threw green onion and garlic on top. Egg roll was double fried like they warmed it up, bbq pork fried rice not sure how that taste, chowmein greasy as he** no such thing as water, make sure you ask for ice or will be serve tap water, the ambiance horrible they have nats flying around..you know the rest..

I got one of the rice dishes. Lunch is a large plate of food for under $10.
This will be my new go-to lunch spot when I crave Chinese. Which is often.
Don't take credit cards for orders under $15 though. So since I don't carry cash a lot I will need to plan ahead. Unless one of ya'll reading this wants to meet for lunch to split the bill. We can Paypal each other and the other can use credit card. Hah! -

I've been there a few times and keep hoping it will get better. Seems like the food gets saltier and saltier. This will be my last time. Food is just way to salty
The service is really good and quick. -

Food wasn't bad but didn't expect a steel wool in the meat that ordered. I don't need more iron in my meal. But they promise a full refund and apologize sincerely for the mistake. But I won't order again that's for sure.
